01 · Starting point
[Client] was building a [X MW] offshore wind farm [location]. One season was set aside for installing the foundations – with not a single day to spare.
[Description of the project: what was built, who was involved and what phase the project was in when Nordem joined.]
[Why the client chose Nordem: offshore experience, project management expertise, local presence.]
AI-generated image02 · Challenge
The sea sets the schedule. Project management decides whether we are ready.
AI-generated image01
Short weather windows
The installation vessel can only lift when the waves are low enough. [How many working days the season realistically had.]
02
[X] suppliers, one schedule
Foundations, vessels, port logistics and inspections came from different suppliers. [The most critical interfaces.]
03
Safety at sea
[X] people worked offshore at the same time. [How safety was ensured.]
03 · How the turbine is built
From the seabed to the nacelle
Scroll to see how a jacket-founded offshore wind turbine is assembled – part by part, in the order it happens at sea.
Step 01 / 08
The site
Before the first lift, we know exactly what the seabed and conditions are like. [Depth and soil conditions.]
Step 02 / 08
Piles
Four steel piles are driven into the seabed. They carry the whole structure and transfer wave and wind loads into the ground.
Step 03 / 08
Jacket
The jacket is lowered onto the piles. A lattice structure is light but stiff: loads are shared between the legs and the braces.
Step 04 / 08
Grouted connections
The legs are grouted to the piles. The connection is the most critical detail of the foundation – and exactly where quality management shows.
Step 05 / 08
Transition piece
The transition piece connects the foundation to the tower. The boat landing, ladder and platform serve maintenance for the turbine’s whole life.
Step 06 / 08
Tower and turbine
Tower, nacelle and rotor are lifted into place as separate lifts. Every lift needs its own weather window.
Step 07 / 08
Cabling
The subsea cable is pulled through the J-tube into the turbine and on to the next one.
Step 08 / 08
The wind farm
The same work is repeated for every turbine. [Nordem’s role in the project in one sentence.]
